I'm Out of Food!

I have a freezer full of chicken that Jo bought on sale at Winegars, and really would love to put it to use. Since we never found a date that worked for everyone over the holidays, I am wondering if there is a time in the NEAR future that would work? I am out of food, and I miss the wonderful ease of the 'Mormon Meals'!

I am too low on my meals and I would like to do some more! I can only do it on saturday's now.

Saturdays are good with me too.

What do you want to make?

I too am very low on meals and if my family can't do a "mormon meal" we don't eat anything nutritious. (very hard to run to McDonald's or the grocery store or set down Coop for more than a few minutes). These have save us so I hope we always continue. What about Saturday Jan 17th? I suggest we pair up and rotate being in charge. So if it is your turn you and your partner finalize the menu, do all the shopping and host the group (or arrange for someone to host). If we rotate we only have to be in charge a couple times a year and the Suz and Jo won't get used and abused.

good idea angel. the 17th would work for me too.

I'm good with the 17th. I won't be able to host, my tiny apartment would freak out with all of us in there. I could just host at my mom's house and then she will have to do the shopping with me.

I think that is a great idea, Angel! I really like the idea of pairing up and finalizing the menu, and shopping together. The 17th is good for me too!

Who wants to go first?

The 17th is fine with me. I have a basketball game at 4:00, but hopefully we're done before then. I know Angel is trying to share the joy of shopping, but I enjoy it and once you get the hang of it, it's not a big deal. Don't mind making the list or shopping. I don't have little kids and a complicated life, so it is fine with me. I hate to put the pressure on Suz, but with her 2 kitchens, her place is ideal. So, what do you think Suz?
Now, I have the book that has many more meals than we have cooked. We also have the recipes for the ones we have cooked. Maybe we need to try a few new recipes each time and then choose some of our favorite ones to cook again.
I vote for Cheryl's meatloaf again. I also vote for a month off the pizza braids. I haven't had the chicken pot pie, but that's a must because Suz has already bought the pie crusts. I have tons of tortillas in my freezer, so let's use those.
Meg, I don't know how to make the poll for recipes like last time, but that was helpful. Call me if you want to add some new ones from the book and I'll read some to you and you can decide what doesn't sound dicey to you. Can't wait to get together. After all, we have cute aprons to wear.

The 17th it is. I am fine to do it at my house and I am also happy to shop if someone else makes the list. I am childless. Angel gave me some awesome books her momma bought when she went to a class on freezer meals. The book has 3 sections-meals you cook in the crockpot and then freeze and just warm-meals you cook in the oven and then freeze and then just warm-and meals like we have been doing that need a few hours to cook. Maybe we should always cook at my house and take turns choosing meals and arranging the dates.

ps----I think we need some freezer desserts!

I think Susan's house is ideal too! I'm glad to let someone else do the shopping and get the good deals..I'm not so good at that, but I think that taking turns choosing the meals is a good idea.

Maybe we can have everyone come with 10 batches of their favorite cookie dough to share with everyone. That way we can have 10different varieties of frozen cookie dough to take home?!?

So it's decided. The 17th at Susan's house. Jo and Kelly will finalize the menu and the shopping this time and then we can rotate next time (Jo you can always be invited to help with this if you are willing but it is a skill I would like to learn). Jo and Suz-pick out a few meals from each of your books and email them to meg to be put on the blog and voted on. My mom's book has the labels and the shopping lists already included so we won't need to do that. I have two regular crockpots and one XL crockpot to bring if needed. (I would like to try the crockpot then freeze method because I can't seem to go from freezer to crockpot without burning it) cookie dough sounds good to me- does everyone have enough freezer space for this?

I was thinking when we pair up to plan, we might want 1 person from each family, then we get both families needs covered, and we can bond with each other. What time do we start. I vote for early.

I have 3 crock pots. How long do these crock pot meals cook before we freeze? Do we need to do them ahead of time so we can share them that day?

Suz said...

I think that everyone will need to bring a crockpot and we will put it together and start the cooking and it can finish at each persons house and they can freeze it. There are some great recipes made this way. Does everyone have at least 1 crockpot? I wouldn't mind doing 2 if there are enough crocks around.

I have 1 of my own. But, can get access to 2 more, if needed. I think we should start early too..like 8 or 9 ish.

Crockpots..I mean!

I like the Idea of starting early because I want to go to Sundance that afternoon. I have 1 crockpot.

I'm having my patients moved to Friday so I can be there at 8.

woah, i have been out of the loop. i will be there the 17th with one crockpots. we are mormon ladies, surely everyone has at least one (i got 5 for my wedding). i like the cookie dough idea, and i could make room but don't have it now. i will help shop or be a pair sometime, but i am childfull, and shopping is annoying sometimes. tell me what you want on the poll - or do you just want the people planning to chose? that would be easier and we might get a greater variety.

Who in the Christensen family wants to plan the menus with me? Someone's got to decide, so I'll be the big girl (which I totally am) and do this.

Jo---You are stuck with me this month. I have these awesome books from Angel's momma that acutally make the lists for you! I will call you tomorrow.
